I work in a museum. The other morning I was alone, in my area at work, opening the center. This area that I work in has approximately 30 foot ceilings and is almost the length of a football field. So I was doing my thing, setting up when I notice that this sparrow had found it’s way into the museum and was flying frantically from one end of the room to the other. I felt sorry for the poor thing but it was so erratic that I knew I wouldn’t be able to capture it to let it outside without hurting it… so I started to whistle to it… and it listened to me eventually. I tweeted to it until I got it to follow me down a corridor and eventually out a door.
Moral of the story: communication between birds and people is possible and can be highly beneficial for all involved.
